Tallulah’s Solo

Launch Party

Books of Wonder is thrilled to welcome back author MARILYN SINGER and illustrator ALEXANDRA BOIGER for the launch party of Tallulah’s Solo, their second book together about this young ballerina. Last year Books of Wonder hosted the launch for Tallulah’s Tutu, and we all got to meet a headstrong little ballerina that wanted things just her way. Now Tallulah is back, sure she will have a solo at her dance school’s upcoming performance. But Tallulah may be in for some surprises as things don’t go quite they way she expects. Beginning at 1pm, bring your young ballerinas to a launch party for Tallulah’s Solo and to meet and share an afternoon with two special picture book creators. MARILYN SINGER and ALEXANDRA BOIGER will read their new book, take questions from the audience, and sign copies of their wonderful books. Light refreshments will be served, plus one or two fun surprises! Ages 3-6. Sunday, May 20th, 1-3pm.      

      April Book Bonanza @BooksofWonder

On Saturday, April 21st, please join us in celebrating five fun-filled picture books your young children will love. Caldecott medalist PAUL O. ZELINSKY will present Z is for Moose, a funny and creative spin on your typical ABCs, in which Z (for Zebra) hopes he’ll be able to wrangle all the other letters easily into their correct places - until it proves a little more difficult than he thought. Caldecott honoree PETER MCCARTY will share The Monster Returns, in this sequel to Jeremy Draws a Monster, an impolite and unwelcome monster returns to visit Jeremy, and turns the little boy’s life upside down. ROSE A. LEWIS will share Sweet Dreams, a tender book of rhyming verse in which a mother puts her daughter to bed with lulling stories about the different animals living nearby, all of whom have their own nighttime rituals. Author PUCK will present his new books New York Baby and Doodle New York. The first is a charming snapshot of a child’s life in the Big Apple, as babies showcase their favorite authentic city spots, while the second will be sure to put your young ones in a New York state of mind, as this book of doodles engages your kids’ imaginations and allows them to explore the city that never sleeps by sketching their own subway cars and skyscrapers. Illustrator TRACY DOCKRAY will share Jammy Dance a rollicking bedtime story,in which a sister and brother turn getting ready for bed into a fun-filled dance routine, from swirling in bath towels to tapping toothbrushes and swaying down the hall to their room.  Beginning at noon these authors will share their work, take questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their delightful books. Ages 3 and up. 12-2 pm.

Picture Book Friends 

@BooksofWonder is pleased to welcome two talented artists who have created wonderful new picture books featuring fun, furry frieneds.  Author and artist GEOFFREY HAYES will introduce The Bunny’s Night-Light: A Glow-in-the-Dark Search,  in which Little Bunny has a hard time sleeping because he’s afraid of the dark, so Papa tries to find his small son a night-light. Should they use the moon? Or perhaps some fireflies? What about a glowworm? This gentle and comforting text is the perfect bedtime story to be read by parents to their own little bunnies. Illustrator SCOTT MENCHIN will share Riding in My Car, a book inspired by Woody Guthrie’s classic song of the same name. In Menchin’s illustrations, a family of dogs go on a cross-country road trip together; the story is told with the help of fun interactive features such as pull-tabs, pop-ups and lift-the-flaps on every page. And you’ll have fun pointing out the famous American landmarks the dogs visit — like the Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon, and Mount Rushmore — and sharing the fascinating American facts hidden on each page for young readers to find. There will also be a live performance of the song Riding In My Car by a friend of the artist, who’ll invite young ones (and not-so-young) to join in for a fun-filled sing-along. Lost and Found!

@BooksofWonder is very excited to invite you and your young ones to share a Sunday afternoon enjoying two wonderfully crafted new picture books — introduced by the people who created them! Beginning at 1pm debut picture book creator MONICA CARNESI will introduce Little Dog Lost , the true story of a brave dog named Baltic in brilliant watercolors, and what happens when he gets stuck on a piece of ice floating down a frozen river. LINDSAY WARD will share her new book When Blue Met Egg set in New York and full of wonderful cut paper illustrations. One cold winter day, Blue returns to her nest to find something wonderful: Egg! Or rather a snowball she mistakes for an egg. Blue puts Egg in a pail and sets off to look for Egg’s mother. But as the winter winds down and the temperature goes up, Blue is in for a sad surprise. But when Egg turns to a puddle, Blue finds a new beauty in her unlikely friend. Join us as these two author/artist share their new books, sign copies of their works, and take questions from the audience. Ages 2-6. Sunday, February 19th, 1-3pm.

On Saturday February 11th @BooksofWonder is overjoyed to celebrate Valentine’s Day with four picture book authors and artists and their books about love, kindness, and affection. Beginning at noon DIANE DEGROAT will share her New York Times bestselling title Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink, in which Gilbert’s prank of writing two not-so-nice valentines to his classmates quickly produces pandemonium. But there’s always time for a change of heart on Valentine’s Day. Caldecott Honorartist DAVID EZRA STEIN will show us what it takes to cuddle, nestle, and nuzzle with great images and a simple message inThe Nice Book. Caldecott Honor artist NANCY TAFURI will present All Kinds of Kisses, which shows all the animals on the farm snuggling up with their little ones as a mama bird — seen on every spread — makes her way back to her nest to give her baby bird some special cuddles. Beloved author and artist of over 120 books for children, ROSEMARY WELLS will open our eyes to Love Waves — the invisible but strong waves of love we send to our loved ones until we can be together again — through gentle story of one very loving family. Be sure to bring your young lovers of great picture books to this exciting event as these four very talented authors and artists present their books, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their wonderful works. Ages 2-6. Staring at noon, NY Times best-selling author/artist PETER BROWN will share his latest hilarious book about Lucy the bear, who is now out to make new friends — no matter what! — in You Will Be My Friend; author MARGIE PALATINI will share 3 wonderful new picture books she’s written: Hogg, Hogg, & Hog,  Goldie and the Three Hares, and Stuff; author JODI MOORE will share a rousing, yet very unusual day at the beach with When a Dragon Moves In; author/artist RHODE MONTIJO will share his debut picture book The Halloween Kid; author/artist FIONA ROBINSON will share the story of an unassuming choir with What Animals Really Like; author GARY RUBENSTEIN will introduce his nearly perfect creation, The Girl Who Never Made a Mistake; Theodore Seuss Geisel Award-winner GEOFFREY HAYES will share his two new picture books: Patrick in a Teddy Bears Picnic and Other Stories, and A Poor Excuse for a Dragon; and author/artist MARK SIEGEL will share Moving House, the first picture book he’s written as well as illustrated, about a home that really knows how to move! Join us starting at noon as this wonderful cast of picture book creators entertain you and your young readers and listeners with some great stories with some very funny twists.
