HOLIDAY KICKOFF!

On   Saturday, November 26th, we are thrilled to welcome an award winning  group of 10 renowned and award-winning artists to share their new books  that are not only beautifully illustrated, but also filled with  heart-warming tales. Beginning at noon, two-time Caldecott Medalist husband-and-wife team LEO & DIANE DILLON, will introduce Never Forgotten, a tale in poetry by Patricia McKissack, about a young boy in Africa who  is sold into slavery, and The Secret River by  Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, a mystical tale  of a young girl in the Great Depression who must figure out how to feed  her friends and family; renowned artist and author, JAMES GURNEY will unveil the 20th anniversary edition of his now classic book, Dinotopia, the story of a father and son who discover an incredible world where dinosaurs and man co-exist in harmony; Caldecott  Honor artist SUSAN JEFFERS will share her sumptuous retelling of the classic fairy tale Hansel & Gretel; iconic artist HILARY KNIGHT, internationally known for Eloise and its sequels, will  present his new book, Nina in That Makes Me Mad, in which young Nina discovers that venting her feelings can help her deal with her problems; Caldecott Medalist JERRY PINKNEY will introduce Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, his richly illustrated interpretation of the classic poem; CHARLES SANTORE will share his lush illustrations for The Night Before Christmas; Caldecott Honor artist MELISSA SWEET will share the her colorful new book Balloons Over Broadway,  the story of how artist Tony Sarg created the first giant balloons that  have become the hallmark of the Macy’s Thankgiving Day Parade;  three-time Caldecott Medalist DAVID WIESNER will present the 20th anniversary edition of Tuesday,  his nearly wordless tale of a special night when a small town’s frogs  go flying through the sky on suddenly magical lily pads; and Caldecott  Medalist ED YOUNG will share The House that Baba Built,  the story of the house his father built in Shanghai and how through  love and imagination it was transformed into whatever the family needed.  Beginning at noon, these esteemed artists  will present their books,  answer questions from the audience, and then sign  copies of all their  amazing works. All ages. Saturday, November 26th,12-2pm.

Being born rich and famous does not always mean that everything goes  right. Emma, an outcast in her family’s high society lifestyle, finds  herself stuck in the center of that world when her father decides to  run for President of the United States. Now, Emma must learn to speak  up for herself and for what she believes in, if she doesn’t want to be  pushed into “doing what she’s told.” Thankfully, she has her new friends  and fellow “daughters” - Lizzie, Carina, and Hudson - to help her out.  Join us beginning at 6pm as JOANNA PHILBIN presents her new book, takes questions from the audience, and signs  copies of all her novels. Light refreshments will be served. Ages 11-14. Late in the first act of Do Rei Mi, the orchestra picks up and the cast takes to dancing and singing a lighthearted and joyous song, What’s New at the Zoo? written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green with music by Jule Styne. Join us on Sunday, November 6th, as Books of wonder is thrilled to present a fun filled afternoon of song, colorful illustrations, and a great story. Joining us will be TRAVIS FOSTER the artist that transformed What’s New at the Zoo? into a picture book and two-time Tony Award Winner PHYLLIS NEWMAN wife of the late Adolph Green and  author of the book’s introduction. Also joining us will be the talented  first graders from New York’s P.S. 212 who will open the event by  singing the song for everyone in attendance. Then Ms. Newman will  introduce the book and TRAVIS FOSTER will give us an interactive drawing demo that’s sure to delight your  kids as well as you! A portion Ms. Newman’s of the proceeds from the  sales of What’s New At The Zoo? will go to the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative. @BooksofWonder is thrilled to welcome 10 creators of wonderful picture books as we invite you and your young ones to spend the afternoon hearing some wonderful stories, seeing some great illustrations, and having a laugh. Beginning at noon this full house of wonderful authors and artists will share their new creations. Joining us will be, author and artist GENE BARRETTA with his new picture book Zoola Palooza: A Book of Homographs; author and artist duo DEAN FLIESCHER-CAMP and JENNY SLATE will introduce Marcel the Shell With Shoes On: Things About Me, as internet sensation Marcel makes his debut on the printed page; illustrator GIDEON KENDALL will take us to one very wild classroom with Dino Pets Go To School;  author LINDA RAVIN LODDING  will introduce us to a very busy young girl with The Busy Life of Ernestine BuckmeisterCaldecott Award winner CHRIS RASCHKA will share his two most recent picture books, first the story of a dog and his favorite toy with A Ball for Daisy, and his new felt book for the youngest of readers and listeners, Farmy Farm; and author/artist SELINA ALKO will share Every-day Dress-up, the story of a very imaginative little girl. Finally, we welcome a trio of picture book creators who have come together to create The Fartiste, the true story of performance artist Joseph Pujol who becomes the Fartiste, a sensation of the legendary Moulin Rouge, by producing music from his backside. Joining us will be authors KATHLEEN KRULL and PAUL BREWER and artist BORIS KULIKOV, who have come together to create this colorful book. Starting at noon these wonderful authors and artist will present their new works, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their colorful books. Ages 3-7. 12-2pm.
