On Saturday, May 19th, @BooksofWonder is thrilled to welcome 7 authors of page-turning novels for teen readers to an event that features fantasy, mystery, a traveling circus, thrillers, and some extreme situations. Joining us for this exciting afternoon as debut author, HANNAH BARNABY, pulls the curtains back on Wonder Show, a menagerie of human curiosities and misfits guaranteed to astound and amaze; JENNIFER HUBBARD steals our breath with Try Not to Breath, a riveting story about a teenage boy who attempted suicide and now finds a new chance at life when he meets an energetic new girl; BRIAN JAMES shares Life Is But a Dream, the intense, compelling story of a teen girl with schizophrenia; the team of debut authors STACY KRAMER and VALERIE THOMAS take us for a ride with From What I Remember, the crazy tale of four classmates and a trip south of the border; DANIEL NAYERI shares Another Jekyll, Another Hyde revisiting Jekyll and Hyde as a current-day cautionary tale laced with a heady dose of paranormal intrigue; and ROBIN WASSERMAN introduces a teen whose dream romance turns overnight into a nightmare of a mystery in The Book of Blood and Shadow. Join us beginning at noon for this event packed with great teen novels. The authors will present their books, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their great titles. Set on Coney Island we meet Tristan a 16 year old lifeguard whose life get completely turned up side down as he is swept out to sea for 3 days by a sudden storm, and is spit back on shore with no memory of what has happened. Now Tristan dreams of mermaids and an entire world beneath the sea he could never have imagined event existed, and is also shocked to learn his connection to this enchanted and wild world. Beginning at 6pm ZORAIDA CORDOVA will present her new book, answer questions from fans, and sign copies of her debut teen thriller. Ages 12 and up. This Saturday, April 21st, @BooksofWonder is thrilled to welcome photographer Takashi Owaki who will be traveling to join us all the way from Japan to share his new book, Dreams Around the World. This captivating book of photographs asks children in from different countries around the globe what they would like to be when they grow up, and then shares all their wishful answers. The photographs and dreams of these young children from around the world are uplifiting and moving. Bring your little ones to meet this world-traveled photographer, enjoy his great stories, ask him questions, get  signed copies of his new book, and maybe even have their photo taken with a first rate globe trotter. ZELINSKY will present Z is for Moose, a funny and creative spin on your typical ABCs, in which Z (for Zebra) hopes he’ll be able to wrangle all the other letters easily into their correct places - until it proves a little more difficult than he thought. Caldecott honoree PETER MCCARTY will share The Monster Returns, in this sequel to Jeremy Draws a Monster, an impolite and unwelcome monster returns to visit Jeremy, and turns the little boy’s life upside down. ROSE A. LEWIS will share Sweet Dreams, a tender book of rhyming verse in which a mother puts her daughter to bed with lulling stories about the different animals living nearby, all of whom have their own nighttime rituals. Author PUCK will present his new books New York Baby and Doodle New York. The first is a charming snapshot of a child’s life in the Big Apple, as babies showcase their favorite authentic city spots, while the second will be sure to put your young ones in a New York state of mind, as this book of doodles engages your kids’ imaginations and allows them to explore the city that never sleeps by sketching their own subway cars and skyscrapers. Illustrator TRACY DOCKRAY will share Jammy Dance a rollicking bedtime story,in which a sister and brother turn getting ready for bed into a fun-filled dance routine, from swirling in bath towels to tapping toothbrushes and swaying down the hall to their room.  Beginning at noon these authors will share their work, take questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their delightful books. Ages 3 and up. 12-2 pm.

This past Sunday morning 2booksofwonder hosted a very special story-time featuring dancers from the Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company , Isadora Duncan A Graphic Biography by Sabrina Jones was read and then the dancers preformed for young fans and even taught them some dance moves. This Sunday, April15th Books of Wonder is thrilled to welcome 4 authors 
of thrilling dystopian science fiction for teens from across the country. Joining us from NYC will be New York Times best-selling author LAUREN OLIVER, who will introduce the sequel to her New York Times bestseller Delirium, Pandemonium, an exciting tale of political rebellion and forbidden romance in which teenager Lena must summon defiance and courage to fight to stop love from being considered a dangerous disease.  ANNA CAREY will share Eve, the first book in her new trilogy. Sixteen years after a virus has killed almost everyone on earth, eighteen-year-old Eve escapes from the school where she is being kept like a prisoner, and must learn to navigate the frightening world beyond. TAHEREH MAFI will present her debut novel Shatter Me, about a young girl named Juliette imprisoned for murder because of her mysteriously toxic touch - everyone she makes contact with immediately dies. VERONICA ROSSI will share her debut novel Under the Never Sky, in which Aria, exiled from her home, struggles to survive alone among cannibals and violent storms until she meets Perry, a wild savage who is Aria’s opposite in every way, but might also be her only hope of staying alive. You and your children are  invited to an afternoon featuring everything from wordless picture books to wonderful middle grade books you will not want to put down. The Caldecott Medal and honorees are selected each year by The American Library Association as the finest picture books published in America the prior year. The Newbery Medal and honorees are selected by the ALA as the finest novels for young readers published the prior year. We are overjoyed and honored to be able to bring these celebrated and talented authors and artists together for you to experience the best in American children’s books. 
 
Joining us will be author JACK GANTOS, winner of the Newbery Medal for Dead End in Norvelt, the story of an entirely true and wildly fictional, endlessly surprising two months in 1962 with a kid named Jack Gantos; author & artist CHRIS RASCHKA, winner of the Caldecott Medal for A Ball For Daisy, a wordless picture book about a dog who loves her bright red ball and what happens when another dog accidentally pops it. Raschka’s brilliant ink, watercolor, and gouache illustrations convey this simple story as eloquently as any words could; author, artist, and beloved cartoonist PATRICK McDONNELL will be here for Me…Jane  his Caldecott Honor Book, which brings to life the inspiring childhood of the little girl who would grow up to be beloved naturalist Jane Goodall; author & artist JOHN ROCCO will shareBlackout, his Caldecott Honor Book, detailing how a family comes together on a hot summer night in the city when the power goes out! Told with spectacular illustrations and few words, Rocco captures the magic and mystery of a big city and the joys of family; author & artist LANE SMITH will present Grandpa Green, his Caldecott Honor Book, in which a young boy tells us all about his beloved, though sometimes forgetful, great-grandfather, as he takes us through the garden where memories are handed down in the fanciful shape of topiary trees and imagination keeps alive memories too precious to be forgotten; and author & artist EUGENE YELCHIN will share Breaking Stalin’s Nose, his Newbery Honor Book (and debut novel), about young Sasha’s life growing up in the heart of Soviet Russia during the Cold War.
