As every young book lover knows, there’s no time like storytime! That’s why every Friday at 4pm, and every Sunday at 11:30am, our animated Books of Wonder storytellers choose some of their favorite books from our shelves and bring them to life for your young readers.
Last year, Books of Wonder invited some of our favorite picture book creators to become the storytellers as well! Now, we are thrilled to announce the return of this exciting program, called Storytime with the Author! Join us each Tuesday at 3:30pm to meet and hear from a world-class author or artist as they read aloud from their own books, as well as the wonderful picture books that have inspired them. Below is the calendar for the next two months of Storytime with the Author — with so many great authors and artists scheduled, we can’t think of a better way to spend a Tuesday afternoon with your young book lovers!
Dr. Seuss's 110th birthday Special Storytime this Sunday @ 1pm!
As the great Dr. Seuss once wrote, “a person’s a person, no matter how small." And this Sunday, March 2nd, at 1pm, Books of Wonder invites you to bring your children — be they small or tall — along to a special storytime in honor of what would have been Dr. Seuss’s 110th birthday! We’re just two months into the new year, and we’ve already shared so many memorable moments with authors, artists, and countless young readers. With March right around the corner (and better weather not too far behind!) every day is an opportunity to share the magic of books with the young readers you love at Books of Wonder.
This weekend, Books of Wonder will be hosting TWO private book fairs for two different local schools! There will be special guest authors and artists, crafts, and, of course, the wonderful opportunity for the students and their school libraries to add new books to their collections — all aided and assisted by our expert staff of children’s book experts. If you would like to see your child’s school have their book fair hosted at Books of Wonder, we’d love to discuss it with you or the folks at your child’s school. Just email us at Projects@booksofwonder.com. Please note, that as we give each school exclusive use of the store during their book fair, we will be opening at noon this Saturday and Sunday.

The @BooksofWonder Children of Bellevue - Reach Out & Read Book Drive!
On Monday, December 9th, Books of Wonder is once again honored to partner withChildren of Bellevue to help support their wonderful Reach Out and Read program and the many other programs they run to help many of New York City’s neediest children.
Reach out and Read makes books and parent counseling a routine part of pediatric care for some on New York’s most vulnerable children starting at a baby’s six month check-up! This program encourages reading aloud as a regular, joyful home activity. And as most of you already know from seeing it in your own kids, reading aloud to children has been shown to improve language development, parent-child interactions and success in school.
Books of Wonder and Children of Bellevue, cordially invite you to attend two shopping events at Books of Wonder on Monday, December 9th to help support this amazing program and change a child’s life forever.
The fun starts at 3:30pm with a great children’s event featuring stories, fun activities, a reading by author and artist TAD HILLS, and the chance to experience the joys of giving. There will be also be storytime and fun arts and crafts activities led by the wonderfulReach Out and Read staff; and a chance to meet all the volunteers that make Reach out and Read happen; Bring your young readers for an afternoon of enjoying great books while supporting a great cause. Then from 6-8pm we invite grown-up supporters for an evening of cocktails and conversation with a guest appearance by TIM FEDERLE, author of Tequila Mockingbird, the cocktail book for the literary obsessed. He will be reading from his debut novel Better Nate Than Ever, signing books and serving some of the cocktails from his Tequila Mockingbird. There will also be the chance to meet the Director of Reach Out and Readand learn more about this nationally recognized transformative early childhood education program that gives low-income children a 6-month developmental edge in their preschool years.

Every year the National Book Foundation awards the National Book Award in 4 different categories. Every year, Books of Wonder is proud to host as many of the five nominees for this prestigious award in the Young People’s Literature category as we can round up a few nights before the winner is announced. This year, we’re thrilled to be able to host ALL FIVE NOMINEES!
As an additional note, the National Book Awards take on a little bit more of a personal touch for us here at Books of Wonder this year, as Peter Glassman, the store’s founder and owner, has been honored to participate as the first bookseller ever asked to judge in the category of Young People’s Literature.
