Here’s the pitch, and it is high, it is far, it is a fantastic afternoon featuring 4 authors and artists and a celebration of America’s favorite pastime! Middle grade sluggers and book lovers are invited to join us Sunday, March 9th, beginning at 1pm, as author JAMES CHARLTON, NY Times bestselling authorSALLY COOK, and award-winning illustrator ROSS MACDONALD take young readers out to the ol’ ball game with How to Speak Baseball, a lively illustrated guide to decoding baseball banter; then author MICHAEL NORTHROP steps up to bat with Plunked, the story of a sixth grade boy chasing his major-league dreams. Whether you’ve got a short stop or an outfielder, this wonderful afternoon is sure to be a home run with your young readers! Join us as these authors and artists present their books, field questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their wonderful titles. Ages 7-12. Sunday, March 9th, 1-3pm.
As every young book lover knows, there’s no time like storytime! That’s why every Friday at 4pm, and every Sunday at 11:30am, our animated Books of Wonder storytellers choose some of their favorite books from our shelves and bring them to life for your young readers.
Last year, Books of Wonder invited some of our favorite picture book creators to become the storytellers as well! Now, we are thrilled to announce the return of this exciting program, called Storytime with the Author! Join us each Tuesday at 3:30pm to meet and hear from a world-class author or artist as they read aloud from their own books, as well as the wonderful picture books that have inspired them. Below is the calendar for the next two months of Storytime with the Author — with so many great authors and artists scheduled, we can’t think of a better way to spend a Tuesday afternoon with your young book lovers!
As the great Dr. Seuss once wrote, “a person’s a person, no matter how small." And this Sunday, March 2nd, at 1pm, Books of Wonder invites you to bring your children — be they small or tall — along to a special storytime in honor of what would have been Dr. Seuss’s 110th birthday! Join us as our entertaining storytellers pick some favorite Dr. Seuss books, and bring them to life in all their wit and color. Ages 2-7. Sunday, March 2nd at 1pm.
What’s your favorite animal? That’s the question legendary author and illustrator Eric Carle asked 14 of today’s most notable picture book creators to answer for this wonderful book created to raise funds for and celebrate The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. Each artist described and illustrated their answer in a gorgeous two-page spread, all compiled into a beautiful new picture book! Be sure to join in the zoological fun on Saturday, February 22nd, as we welcome 5 of the award-winning contributors to share their favorite animals with your young book-lovers.
This fun-filled afternoon will surely have your young animal lovers howling and hooting with delight, and looking at animals with a new appreciation! Come meet five of the wonderful picture book creators who have contributed to What’s Your Favorite Animal? Beginning at 1pm, Caldecott Honor artist SUSAN JEFFERS hops into the saddle with her favorite animal (a horse); Caldecott Honor artist PETER MCCARTY hops along with his favorite animal (a bunny rabbit); Two-time Caldecott Medalist CHRIS RASCHKA takes it slow and steady with his favorite animal (a snail); Caldecott Honor artist PETER SIS takes us back to his childhood home in the Czech Republic for a swim with his favorite animal (a blue carp); and NY Times bestselling and award-winning picture book creator ROSEMARY WELLS tells us all about her favorite fuzzy animal (her dog). This star-studded event is a wonderful reason to spend an afternoon with your young ones at Books of Wonder! And proceeds from the sale of this wonderful title benefit The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art — one of our favorite museums! (It’s only a few hours away in Amherst, Massachusetts!) Beginning at 1pm, the artists will discuss their animals, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of all their amazing books! All ages. Saturday, February 22nd, 1-3pm.

This past Saturday afternoon, acclaimed picture book author Julia Donaldson put her stories to music and delivered a fun-filled event young readers and listeners simply loved. Joined by her guitar playing husband, some other friends, and with the help of the audience everyone got involved in the fun. The Gruffalo made an appearance and the crowd got there first introductions to Julia’s latest creation Superworm!
