On Monday, December 9th, Books of Wonder is once again honored to partner withChildren of Bellevue to help support their wonderful Reach Out and Read program and the many other programs they run to help many of New York City’s neediest children.
Reach out and Read makes books and parent counseling a routine part of pediatric care for some on New York’s most vulnerable children starting at a baby’s six month check-up! This program encourages reading aloud as a regular, joyful home activity. And as most of you already know from seeing it in your own kids, reading aloud to children has been shown to improve language development, parent-child interactions and success in school.
Books of Wonder and Children of Bellevue, cordially invite you to attend two shopping events at Books of Wonder on Monday, December 9th to help support this amazing program and change a child’s life forever.
The fun starts at 3:30pm with a great children’s event featuring stories, fun activities, a reading by author and artist TAD HILLS, and the chance to experience the joys of giving. There will be also be storytime and fun arts and crafts activities led by the wonderfulReach Out and Read staff; and a chance to meet all the volunteers that make Reach out and Read happen; Bring your young readers for an afternoon of enjoying great books while supporting a great cause.
Then from 6-8pm we invite grown-up supporters for an evening of cocktails and conversation with a guest appearance by TIM FEDERLE, author of Tequila Mockingbird, the cocktail book for the literary obsessed. He will be reading from his debut novel Better Nate Than Ever, signing books and serving some of the cocktails from his Tequila Mockingbird. There will also be the chance to meet the Director of Reach Out and Readand learn more about this nationally recognized transformative early childhood education program that gives low-income children a 6-month developmental edge in their preschool years.

Every year the National Book Foundation awards the National Book Award in 4 different categories. Every year, Books of Wonder is proud to host as many of the five nominees for this prestigious award in the Young People’s Literature category as we can round up a few nights before the winner is announced.
